Beauty industry employment campaign moves to audit phase

This announcement is for:
Employee / workerEmployer

A state-wide education campaign over the last two months has focussed on minimum rates of pay and staff entitlements for workers in beauty salons operating in the state industrial relations system.

Over 500 businesses across Western Australia were provided with information on the minimum conditions for employees in this industry.  Beauty salons in the state industrial relations system are those where the businesses operate as:

  • sole traders (e.g. Jane Smith trading as Jane’s Beauty Spa),
  • unincorporated partnerships (e.g. Jane and Bob Smith trading as Jane’s Beauty Spa)
  • unincorporated trust arrangements (Jane and Bob Smith as trustees for Jane’s Beauty Spa).

Following the education phase of this campaign, selected beauty salon businesses are now being audited by industrial inspectors from Private Sector Labour Relations to ensure that employees are receiving the correct rates of pay and entitlements and the business is keeping correct employment records.

Businesses which are included in this stage of the campaign will be required to provide records that will be audited by industrial inspectors to ensure employees are receiving their correct pay rates and entitlements.
