The Safe Spaces initiative was launched by the Minister for the Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence
Hon Simone McGurk MLA on 2 October 2017.

Premier’s Circular 2017/07 supports the initiative by providing public sector employees with access to:

  • ten days’ non-cumulative paid Family and Domestic Violence (FDV) leave;
  • reinforced flexible work arrangements and safety plan agreements; and
  • continued access to employer sponsored confidential counselling services.

We are incorporating FDV leave in all replacement public sector industrial agreements.
Family and Domestic Violence - Paid Leave and Workplace Support Implementation Guidelines have been issued to assist public sector employers in developing FDV policies and procedures.

We are also working closely with the Department of Communities and Public Sector Commission to coordinate public sector responses to FDV.
